East Broadway & 7th Street Improvements

Construction Update: May 13, 2024

  • East Broadway Improvements (between Fenning and Hwy 25): Broadway is reduced to one lane in both directions while crews work on repairs to sidewalks, storm sewers, and ADA ramps. The contractor plans to start the mill and overlay stage of the project in late May or early June. The project is on schedule to be complete by the end of June, in anticipation of MnDOT’s project on the Hwy 25 bridge, which is scheduled to begin July 8.

Location:

The City of Monticello and Wright County are planning a pavement project along CSAH 75 (East Broadway Street) from MN Trunk Highway 25 (Pine Street), to the CSAH 39/18, Fenning Avenue intersection.

Project Scope:

Initially considering concrete pavement, the project will now focus on bituminous mill-and-overlay pavement preservation. The project includes:

  •  Spot repair of concrete curb and gutter.
  • Reconstruction of pedestrian ramps to ADA standards.
  • Repair of sanitary sewer and storm manholes.
  • Addition of pathway lighting on the south side of Broadway Street between Washington Street and Fenning Avenue.
  • Replace trail on the south side of Broadway Street between Washington Street and Fenning Avenue.
  • Upgrade of non-turf center median islands with landscaping and irrigation.
  • Enhanced pedestrian crossings at Broadway Avenue and Cedar Street, and Broadway Avenue and Wright Street intersections.
  • Replacement of manhole castings, rings, and gate valve covers as needed.

 Additional Improvements:

The project also combines with the 7th Street Retaining Wall, RRFB, and Sidewalk Improvement Project, including:

  • Reconstruction of a retaining wall along 7th Street.
  • Construction of sidewalks connecting Locust Street to Walnut Street and from Cedar Street to Washington Street.
  • Replacement of a rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) at Walnut Street and 7th Street.
  • Full-depth reclamation and re-striping of the parking lot for the Prairie Center building.

Timeline:

  • East Broadway Construction begins Wednesday, April 24, 2024. The project is anticipated to be completed in June.
  • The 7th Street Retaining Wall & Sidewalk Extension project is scheduled to begin in May with completion in August.
  • Work on the DMV parking lot is scheduled to begin in May. The work will take up to one week to complete.
