Elections
The City of Monticello is responsible for administering city, county, state, and federal elections for city residents. This includes voting in primary and general elections as well as absentee voting.
The City's election headquarters is located at City Hall, 505 Walnut Street. Contact the City Clerk at 763-295-2711 with questions.

2026 Elections
The 2026 State Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 11. The purpose of the primary election is to narrow down the state and national candidate pool. You must vote within one political party for your vote to be counted during the primary.
The 2026 General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3. This is the election where voting for Mayor and Council candidates takes place as well as voting for state and federal offices.
Important 2026 Primary Election Dates
June 26 Absentee voting begins for Primary Election (in person or by mail)
July 21 Last day to pre-register to vote for Primary Election.
August 8 City Hall open on Saturday for absentee voting in person (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
August 10 Last day of absentee voting for Primary (to 5 p.m.)
August 11 Primary Election Day (7 a.m. – 8 p.m.)

Absentee Voting
Minnesota allows citizens to vote in advance of Election Day with an absentee ballot. Voters who vote by absentee ballot are not eligible to vote on Election Day.

Candidates are required to file campaign financial reports according to Minnesota Statutes 211A, and these reports must be available on the local government's website for a minimum of 4 years.
