City of Monticello Statement Regarding Xcel Energy

Monticello, MN – Xcel Energy notified the City of Monticello when the incident occurred, and they have been forthcoming with information as they work toward containment. In addition to communicating with us directly, we’re grateful for Xcel’s public updates, offering information directly to the community.

As an added level of support, City staff are available to share questions and concerns with either Xcel Energy or any state agencies assisting with the response. While the City of Monticello does not have a direct role in plant oversight or the containment efforts, we’re committed to helping the public receive the answers and information they need.

Monticello, MN – On Monday, October 27, 2025, the City Council adopted an ordinance to implement a gas energy franchise fee on CenterPoint Energy Minnesota Gas. This new fee will provide a dedicated funding source for the City’s pavement management program and reduce reliance on large property assessments for street maintenance projects.

Monticello, MN – The City of Monticello Industrial and Economic Development Committee (IEDC) hosted its annual Manufacturers Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, October 10, at 7 a.m. in the Monticello Community Center. This event recognizes local manufacturers’ impact and contributions to the community. The City of Monticello Economic Development Authority, Xcel Energy, North Star Bank, Sherburne State Bank, and the National Bank of commerce sponsored the event.
